This episode is part 2 of our trip to Falmouth Uni. Neill Gorton joins us, and we get into some decent workshop talk. We cover how to approach getting work, good folio content, critique, how we learn and what makes a good crew member.
It was a nice atmosphere, and it was lovely to be so open and honest with a large group of students who could share the afternoon with us. In addition to the hour-long chat here, Todd and I talked about some important things, especially the use of latex and plaster to make simple things (a recurring theme here recently) when tight budgets are concerned.

At the recent UK trade show, UMAE 2024 (United Makeup Artists Expo), I intended to get back to basics and focus on this lower-cost method to help students start. Trade shows allow industry professionals to showcase their work and boost supplier sales. However, there are missed opportunities with grandstanding displays.
Returning to basics and focusing on sound fundamental principles, attendees to these shows can learn to create impressive makeup designs using basic materials such as plaster and latex. Setting the cost barrier lower empowers more people to try and learn. I wanted to inspire people to try and focus on what matters most. The whole process of designing and creating the pieces in the show is covered in this free PDF workbook, which you can download here or tapping below.
Here are some pictures of the pieces made. The free PDF workbook available here has all the details and explanations of every step.

Thanks for the workbook, great to see all the steps with good photos and explanations.
Also the idea to test all the gypsum types against each other is a fantastic idea.
As always a great listen
All the best
